The short version
- Your cards are shared only with your partner. There’s no feed and nothing is public.
- We store your account, profile and cards with Google Firebase so they reach your partner and your other phones.
- No third-party analytics, no tracking. We don’t sell or rent your information.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time, and your profile and cards go with it.
Overview
This policy explains how the Pairloom iPhone app (“Pairloom”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) and this website handle information. Pairloom is a shared space for two people: each of you makes cards from your photos and sees the other’s. To make that work, some of what you add has to be stored online and shared with your partner. This page explains exactly what, and who can see it.
What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive an account identifier and the email address linked to that account (if you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple’s private relay address instead). Your first name from Apple or Google is used to suggest a display name, which you can change.
Your profile
- Your display name and profile photo.
- Your gender (used to pick your character in the app) and your birthday.
- Your reminder time and which notifications you want.
- Your invite code, so your partner can connect with you.
Your cards
- The photos you add (resized before upload), and the finished card.
- Stickers, text and notes you put on either side, and how the card is laid out.
- When the card was made and last edited.
- Where a photo was taken: if you add a photo from your library that has location information in it, Pairloom saves that location (latitude and longitude) with the card. Photos taken with the camera inside Pairloom don’t include a location. Pairloom never asks for access to your device’s location and doesn’t track where you are.
Whispers
Whispers you write on your partner’s cards, or in reply on your own, along with who wrote them and when.
Your partner, streaks and badges
Who you’re connected with and since when, the time zone your shared streak follows, your streak and best streak, and the badges you’ve earned together.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for each phone you use, so we can tell you when your partner shares a photo or whispers to you. The daily reminder is scheduled on your iPhone and doesn’t go through our servers.
What your partner sees
Once you’re connected, your partner can see your display name, profile photo and birthday, all of your cards (including ones made before you connected), the whispers on them, and your shared streak and badges. Card data includes the location saved with library photos, as described above. When you unlink, you stop seeing each other’s cards.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your cards on your phones and your partner’s, keep them in sync and back them up.
- To connect you with your partner and keep track of your streak and badges.
- To send the notifications you’ve turned on.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to fix problems you report.
- To keep Pairloom secure and prevent abuse.
We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
Service providers
Pairloom runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging), provided by Google under its own terms and data protection commitments. Your information is stored on Google’s servers in the United States. Signing in uses Apple’s or Google’s sign-in services, and notifications are delivered through Apple’s push service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
What we don’t do
- No advertising or third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
- No access to your contacts, and no access to your device’s location.
- No public profiles: nobody but your partner can see your cards.
On your iPhone
Pairloom keeps copies of your cards, your partner’s cards and your profile on your iPhone so the app is fast and works when you’re offline. Your theme choice is stored only on your device. Signing out removes your profile and reminders from the phone.
Keeping & deleting
- A card: deleting one of your cards removes it for good, from your partner’s phone too.
- Unlinking: you stop seeing each other’s cards and each keep your own. Your streak and badges are kept so they come back if you connect again.
- Your account: Settings › Profile settings › Delete account deletes your profile, profile photo, cards and their whispers, your invite code, your push tokens and your partner connection, including the shared streak and badges, then your sign-in account. Whispers you wrote on your partner’s cards are part of their cards and stay there unless they delete those cards.
We keep your information while your account exists and delete it as described above when you ask us to.
When you contact us
If you use Support & feedback in the app, we receive your message, what it’s about, your account identifier and email address, and your app version, iOS version, iPhone model and language, to help us look into it. If you use the contact form on this website, we receive your email address and message. We use these only to reply and to improve Pairloom, and we delete them when they’re no longer needed. Messages are stored in Google Cloud Firestore.
This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a limited time to keep the site secure and running.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict how we use it. You can change your profile and delete cards or your whole account in the app. For anything else, contact us and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Age requirement
Pairloom is for people aged 13 and over, or the minimum age to use online services without a parent’s consent where you live, if that’s higher. We don’t knowingly collect information from younger children; if you think a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
Your information is sent over encrypted connections, and our database and storage rules only let you, and your partner, read your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you share with us.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Pairloom handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
